Nachi Primeval Forest(Nachi Genshirin)

那智原始林

Retaining the original structure of an ancient forest

A primeval forest spreads over the area around Nachi Waterfall. The so-called Nachi Primeval Forest was designated as a “National Natural Monument of Japan” in 1928, and has also been enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Because of the warm humid climate of the region, there are various kinds of plants inhabiting the Forest; not only laurel forest areas and areas of coniferous trees but also species of subtropical ferns are found there. In order to enter the Nachi Primeval Forest, you must be accompanied by an authorized guide.
