Harvest of Otonashi Tea(Otonashi-cha no Shukaku)

音無茶の収穫

Tradition dating back to the Heian Period

It is believed that tea was brought to Hongu-cho, Tanabe City from Kyoto during the Heian Period (794–1185). Approximately 40 households in Kawayu and Fushiogami areas currently cultivate tea in roughly five-hectare fields. The harvested tea leaves are shipped as Otonashi Tea, while some of the tea leaves are also processed for the farmers’ own consumption.
