Tatami-ishi Rock Formation (Tatami Mat Rock Formation) along the Kumano-gawa River(Kumano-gawa-no Tatami-ishi)

熊野川の畳石

Underneath the "tatami mat" is a deep river pool

If you take a boat ride down the Kumano-gawa River, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for serving as a river pilgrimage route, numerous scenic spots and odd-shaped rocks appear one after another on both sides of the river. The Tatami-ishi Rock Formation (Tatami Mat Rock Formation) is situated at the foot of Mt. Gongenyama. If you look at the Rock Formation, you feel like you will be pulled into a deep river pool (filled with exuberant water) that is located underneath it.
