Traveling butterfly "chestnut tiger"
Chestnut tigers are known for traveling a long distance. In fall through winter, they fly to southern Wakayama Prefecture. They are spotted spreading their wings and consuming nectar from flowers such as Eupatorium japonicum, Farfugium japonicum, and Eupatorium in the family Asteraceae. This beautiful butterfly has a 10-cm wingspan and a translucent light blue marbled pattern.
