Iris domestica (leopard flower) is a perennial plant that belongs to the family Iridaceae, and grows to 1 m in height. Its Japanese name “hiogi” originates from the characteristic of its leaf that spreads like an “ogi” (folding fan). In summer, the plant bears orange flowers with red spots. On the mountain side of National Route 42 at Eda, Kushimoto Town, a unique colony of these plants can be found.
