紫陽花祭り

2,000 hydrangeas in a variety of colors

Every year on June 14, at Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine, the Hydrangea Festival (Ajisai Matsuri) is held to appreciate the blessings of nature and pray for good health. In the precincts of the shrine, you can find around 2,000 hydrangeas, including such species as Hydrangea macrophylla, Hydrangea serrata, and Hydrangea involucrata. After the Festival, the Hydrangea Garden, which is located in front of the former Office of Guuji (the chief priest of a Shinto shrine), will be open to the public.
