Allium kiiense is a plant with small pink flowers that grows along mountain streams; it is a rare species whose distribution is mostly limited to the Kii Peninsula. Allium kiiense can be observed on Hiru-jima Island, where you land during the boat ride down the Kumano-gawa River.

Access

Get on the Kumano Kotsu Bus at a stop near JR Shingu Station or Kumano Hayatama Taisha Grand Shrine, and get off at “Michi-no-Eki Kumano-gawa”[道の駅熊野川] stop. Then, board a river boat (kawabune) from the Kumano-gawa River Traditional Boat Tour Center (Kawabune Center).
