Admiring the O-torii Gate at Sunrise

Pilgrims on their way to Kumano reputedly knelt at Fushiogami-oji and admired the view of the Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine’s Shojoden Hall. Walking past Fushiogami-oji and continuing along the old pilgrimage route to Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, you will see the signboard of an observatory on your left. Why not take a detour and climb up the stairs? You can catch a great view there of Oyunohara, the former location of Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine, and the O-torii Gate. At sunset the area is misty, but the landscape varies from moment to moment with the changes of the shape of the shadows of the mountains behind you.
