"Lady Flowers" Blooming along the Ancient Route

Kiijorohototogisu (Tricyrtis macranthopsis) is an endangered plant species indigenous to the Kii Peninsula. It has beautiful yellow bell-shaped flowers, and is called a “Lady Flower.” It is very rare to find this plant growing in the wild. Here at Fushiogami-oji, the flowers are grown over stone walls.

Access

3.6 km (about 1 hour on foot) from Hosshinmon-oji. Climb up 3.3 km from Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine (about 1 hr. 30 min. on foot). About 10 min. by car from Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine.
