Many of the dandelions seen on roadsides in today’s Japan are Taraxacum officinale (common dandelion), a foreign species. Along the Kujino-kawa River, Kushimoto Town, parallel to the Ohechi route, you can see the flowers of “Tokai tanpopo” (Taraxacum longeappendiculatum), a dandelion species native to Japan. It is a dandelion that mainly spreads in the Tokai region, and Kushimoto Town is the farthest west area of Japan to which the species has spread.
