Trace Fossils on Daimon-zaka Slope(Daimon-zaka-no Seikon Kaseki)
大門坂の生痕化石
There is evidence that the area around Daimon-zaka Slope used to be under the sea.
If you carefully look at stone pavements on Daimon-zaka Slope, there are some stones whose surfaces are elongated and swollen. These are trace fossils, geological records of the activities and behaviors of past life. On these stone pavements, you can find fossilized traces of the burrowing and crawling activities of ragworms, crabs, shrimps, and species closely related to them; from these, it is speculated that the present area around Daimon-zaka Slope used to lie beneath the sea in ancient times.
