Chinese lizard's tail growing in clusters(Hangesho no gunsei)

ハンゲショウの群生

Leaves with white half make-up

Chinese lizard’s tail is a perennial plant belonging to the family Saururaceae Saururus. Some people say that its name is derived from its leaf color changing to white around the last seed-sowing day (半夏生: hangesho), which is the 11th day after the summer solstice, and some say the plant is called so because the plant’s leaves look as if they are wearing half make-up (半化粧: hangesho).
