New Tea Leaves Offered to Shrine, Wishing for an Abundant Harvest

Before the harvest of Otonashi-cha tea leaves, which is the specialty of Hongu-cho, Tanabe City, the New Tea Festival is held in which female shrine attendants pick new leaves and offer them to the deity. The contrast of their costume against the green leaves in the tea garden is very striking.
