Scarlet dwarfs glittering with morning dew
Scarlet dwarfs, Japan’s smallest dragonflies, emerge in wet paddy fields in Kozagawa Town, an area rich in nature, in and around June. While male adults have red bodies, female adults have a striped pattern of yellow and dark brown. The insect has been registered in Wakayama Prefecture’s Red Data Book as a Near Threatened (NT) species.
